Pass Christian, Crawfish and White Sand

The fast lane of life has prevented me from updating this blog as well as the unreliable internet connection this past week. I know this is just an excuse but that is all I have to offer.

Some highlights of the past while have included a drive up the coast into Mississippi to look at some of the harder hit area's of Katrina. MDS does have a base in Pass Christian and they have a really neat kitchen set up there for anyone to eat at. It is called God's Katrina Kitchen. It's a huge tent that serves hot food three times a day and also gives out food and clothes. It was really neat to see people come together to make something like this work for such a long time. It reminded me of camp mixed with soup kitchens of inner cities. It was good to take a trip, not a feel good trip by any means but one that makes you think about people and their homes and what really makes a home. Also the power of weather and strength that it possesses or is allowed to possess.

Our crew this week was treated to fried oysters by our home owner. This is the same home owner as mentioned in the previous blog. God is working in the situation and it is really wonderful to see. He asked if a blessing would be asked and if we should hold hands and so we did and at the end of the blessing he had broken down in tears. In that moment the humanness of the situation and the gratitude of one, even though they did not meet the criteria of MDS was shown.

Today we were able to drive down to Gulf Shores and spend the afternoon on white sand beaches and enjoyed the sun and the sound of the waves coming ashore. There were five of us that went, three are leaving at the end of this week so it was good to hang out and enjoy each others company. We came back to the base to enjoy a meal of crawfish, shrimp and a couple spring rolls. It was good, cracking heads off and peeling out the tails. A nice way to end the day.

In between working hard during the day Monday thru Friday these are the moments where we just let loose and hang out. Oh, another high light there was a gay pride festival in Mobile this past weekend and we were downtown and there were beads covering the streets, we picked them up by the hand fulls. We assume that the parade happened that morning, good times.

Well I am learning lessons in patience which is good and even now we are waiting for out short termers to arrive for the week. A group from California, fun will be had.
