This last weekend some of us spent some quality time on the beach. It was a little cool but once you found a nice sheltered spot against the sand dunes it was lovely. I succeeded in attaining some sun. I walked away looking like a lobster, the sunscreen was applied a little too late. However, the peeling was minimal.
This past week I served in the capacity of crew leading. This means that I lead a construction crew at one of the MDS sites. The main work that we were doing this past week was finish work. This included, trim work, hanging doors, staining, varnishing and fixing a lot of mistakes. We had to fix mistakes what others did, which is frustrating. Why not do things right the first time but I learnt a lot. I also had some good times with power tools, very exciting.
The house that we were working on is one that does not meet MDS criteria for need but since we are one of the best volunteer agencies down here we were given this case. A squeaky wheel gets the grease. This client was on the backs of local government etc. It sometimes is hard to keep a good attitude when you are working for people that just like to work the system. However, I was blessed with a wonderful crew that worked hard and were a lot of fun to be around. There was progress made both with work and also relationships with the client who very much does need to know Jesus.
I have tried to upload some pictures that were on a CD so hopefully this works. One is a typical house picture that we see along the gulf coast. Some of the beautiful flowers that are in full bloom. Shrimping is the main industry in Bayou la Batre and so many boats were tossed onto shore and still are there. The industry was in the decline before the storm and storm somewhat put the nail in the coffin.
That's all for now, I hope to write more at a later date but not too late.
