Republic Day & Dancing with Sam?!?

This past Friday was Republic day here in India. As a team we had an opportunity to attend the parade here in Delhi, the capital of India. We were told there would be high security and a lot of people. Now a lot of people here in India is different then a lot of people in Canada. Since the President and Prime Minister were attendance we were not allowed to bring in anything expect us, I guess pens are a very dangerous object. It was an opportunity for India to show off their artillery and different cultural aspects of the country. I have never been to a parade that had chairs, fighter jets, missiles, camels, elephants and a regiment with skis. We had a delightful time. However to attend this we did have to go through security which meant a thorough hand pat down. I was disappointed that we were not able to see any of the dances. The dancers all marched past us but only did their dances at the end for the VIP's. We were not allowed to take pictures and so I have nothing, although the following is from the Punjab when we went to the border, I thought it fit the theme.

Being in India and loving this place and realizing the amount of people here and the power that that brings I am saddened by all the pride in what they could do if someone crossed them the wrong way. We as people love to show off our strength and our capabilities. It is so opposite of how we are called to serve. Out of weakness. God is our strength and yes we are in a battle but it looks different then those here on earth. There is much to reflect on from that day.

Another delight of this past week has been GDT, I will write more about this later. These meetings brought out a friend from back home, Sam. Sam took us out for supper last night, which was wonderful but what made the evening complete was the band that took the stage. Your typical crooning band that did have a bit of talent but the distortion that they used on the mics etc was a little distracting. However, they did dedicate a song to us and called us to the dance floor. Yes, on a TREK outing with Sam there was dancing in India. So funny and I'm sure the people there thought we were nuts. Oh well, our first 'dance party' was held in a hotel restaurant dance floor, there may be more to come. Who really knows...
